Magistrates are located off the lobby of the Williamson County Criminal Justice Center, and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The magistrates:
  • Administer oaths
  • Determine probable cause
  • Issue arrest warrants
  • Issue juvenile petitions on complaints by private citizens and law enforcement
  • Issue search warrants
  • Issue exparte Orders of Protection after hours, on weekends & Holidays.
  • Set bonds and court appearance dates
  • Sign misdemeanor citations

The magistrates are often called upon to explain the role of the District Attorney, Defense Attorney, Bondsman, Youth Service Officers and Judges, although they may not give legal advice.

They are knowledgeable about community resources such as domestic violence shelters and advocates, victim witness coordinators and the Department of Children’s Services.
